Sam Porteus-Smith

Senior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist

Sam grew up in Australia playing a variety of sports growing up – but it was field hockey that became his primary focus. He competed at both state and national levels in Australia and continues to play in the UK.

It was during these years of intense sport that Sam found himself spending more and more time with various physiotherapists for everything from minor injuries to more serious setbacks. Observing the skill and care with which physiotherapists helped him and other athletes recover and return to peak performance inspired him to pursue a similar path.

Sam went on to earn a physiotherapy degree from Monash University in Melbourne, where he graduated with first-class honours. His clinical experience includes time spent working across both amateur and professional sporting environments, including a year with the Australian Football League (AFL) during his studies. These roles provided him with valuable insight into the physical demands of sport and the importance of tailored, effective rehabilitation. He has also spent several years in private practice, treating a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and helping individuals of all ages return to the activities they enjoy.

Now based in London, Sam is excited to continue supporting patients on their rehabilitation journeys – whether their goals involve returning to sport or improving everyday mobility. He is particularly passionate about combining manual therapy, patient education, and customised exercise strategies. He believes in empowering individuals to understand their bodies, actively engage in their recovery, and achieve sustainable outcomes.

Outside of the clinic, Sam maintains an active lifestyle and can often be found playing field hockey or exploring the city. He enjoys working with patients from all backgrounds and takes great pride in helping them reduce pain, regain movement, and reach their personal health and wellness goals.

An interesting fact no one would know:

He grew up on and worked at his family’s beef farm on the North-West coast of Tasmania.

Testimonials

Diana, Blackheath

“Sam’s help with my son Thomas’ return to rugby after injury was superb. He was professional and approachable, and explained what the issue was pertaining to the diagnosis. Sam provided clear insight into what Thomas had to do and suggested ways to address the problems effectively. It was evident that Sam had put a lot of thought into finding a solution, and his guidance was much appreciated. Thomas has improved his strength over the past few weeks and will be visiting the clinic in the future if required due to Thomas playing Rugby.”
